Sotheby’s is delighted to announce Maker + Place Presents: Contemporary Objects Online. Bidding will be open from 5 – 22 January 2018 and the exhibition will be on view in our New York galleries on 10 – 22 January 2018. The sale highlights designers who elevate the everyday with contemporary objects rooted in deep narratives and craftsmanship. This Sotheby’s exclusive showcases attractive price points, with most property having no reserve, and the work of today’s most important emerging makers.

Highlights for the sale include Marcin Rusak’s Perishable Vase, a visionary piece which encapsulates floral particles in a traditional vessel form. Also featured is Fabiano Sarra’s Social Chair, a timeless classic in the making. The hand carved chair, an echo and celebration of modern design, announces the beginning of Sarra’s extraordinarily promising career.

For the first time ever, Sotheby’s introduces Maker + Place as the leading curator of contemporary pieces connecting us to our traditions and values, and as a marker for the future of design.

Hangai Mountain Textiles cashmere collection designed by MAKER for Bauhaus Centennial

The Bauhaus Centennial Cashmere Collection was inspired by the weaving studio based at the Staatliches Bauhaus, a German school of design. The work done there was the building of a foundation for our contemporary textile industry, bringing textiles out of the home, and into the world of design. MAKER was graciously able to partner with HANGAI MOUNTAIN TEXTILES for the production of these limited edition blankets.
